Teachers from Breisach, Freiburg, Fessenheim, and Fortschwihr, along with our team, participated last Saturday in the first part of the dance training workshop led by the Battery Dance Company, New York, at the Franco-German cultural centre, Art’Rhena.
In a brief introduction, Jonathan Hollander, founder and director of Battery Dance Company, and Christiane Walesch-Schneller, chair of the Förderverein Ehemaliges Jüdisches Gemeindehaus Breisach e.V., explained the historical roots of the “Dancing to Connect” concept in Breisach. The 2006 project “Dances for the Blue House” became the model for workshops that have since been conducted in over 70 countries.
Teaching artists Sarah Housepian and Zaki A’Jani Marshall then guided the Franco-German group through various exercises, providing an experience similar to what students will encounter in May 2025. With this insight into the dance methodology, the teachers will be well-prepared to support their classes throughout the project. By the end of the half-day workshop, the group had already created a seven-minute performance.
Our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the dedicated and enthusiastic teachers!
A huge thank you also to Jérémy Goltzéné and his entire team at Art’Rhena. All participants were thoroughly impressed by the facilities.
Many thanks as well to Sarah and Zaki!
We are already looking forward to May 2025!
