Dance
8 May 2025 – A Celebration: The bridge at Breisach will take centre stage, becoming a space for performance and dance. The Blue House has invited the internationally renowned Battery Dance Company from New York to lead workshops for teachers and students.
The Battery Dance Company‘s globally recognised methodology, “Dancing for Trust” (DfT), provides young participants with an opportunity to better understand the complex shared history of Baden and Alsace, as well as Franco-German relations, and their relevance today. These workshops are scheduled around the 80th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s capitulation and the liberation of occupied and annexed territories.
In previous “Dancing to Connect” workshops, held to mark events like the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, young people found ways to engage with historical events beyond words. Through dance, they processed and internalised these moments, making them feel “real” and no longer confined to history books.
Together, participants will create choreographies that reflect the outcomes of biographical research while incorporating their own lived experiences. This approach makes the histories of others tangible, enabling participants to physically connect with stories across time and space.
Dance Workshops
Young people aged 14 and above from a variety of school types on both sides of the Rhine are invited to participate. No prior dance experience is required! Workshops will be conducted in English. The choreographies will be performed on the stage at Art’Rhena and in open-air settings near Breisach..

Teacher Training
The Battery Dance Company offers an introduction to the “Dancing for Trust” (DfT) methodology for teachers and educators. This methodology will be used during the May 2025 workshops with young participants. Since its inception in Breisach and Freiburg in 2006, DfT has been implemented in 60 countries worldwide. The dance pedagogy promotes inclusion, self-confidence, teamwork, and critical thinking.
Teachers and educators are warmly invited to attend the training sessions and join the youth workshops as co-teachers with Battery Dance. The DfT concept can be independently applied in the region beyond 2025.
